The Future of Food | Documentary

Wow! What a look behind the scenes. Ever wonder what the big deal is with GMO's (genetically modified organisms)? The Future of Food, released in 2004, sheds a lot of light on the subject. This documentary distills the complex technology and key regulatory, legal, ethical, environmental and consumer issues surrounding the troubling changes happening in the food system today—genetically engineered foods, patenting, and the corporatization of food—into terms the average person can easily understand. It empowers consumers to understand the consequences of their food choices on our future.

Earth Fare Supermarket's explains succinctly why GMO's are bad.

Definition of GMO: "The abbreviation for genetically modified organism. A GMO is an organism whose genome has been altered by the techniques of genetic engineering so that its DNA contains one or more genes not normally found there." YIKES!

Wow, thanks for posting this video. From the sidelines, I've heard about the threat of GMO, but this video took me into the reality of the dangers that GMO brings into our present and future. Glad I wandered into your site via foodgawker... little did I know I was going to get a fast education on our food supply. I'm a firm believer in supporting small family farms, CSA, and farmer's market because it feels instinctively right with me, but now I have more reason to keep doing what our family has been doing. Thank you!!

Hi Maria, Loved your comment ... thank you. And yes, I am just getting educated on all this. It is rather fascinating. Like you, I am just trying to do the best thing for my family :) I like your use of the word "instinctive". Those believing in the scientific method and genetic modification probably don't use this word much and probably discount it ... one of these such people might be journalist Michael Specter. Now, watching this could temporarily lead you back to the other side, but only for a brief moment. My instinct tells me he is wrong. Knock me for listening to my instincts, but hasn't that been one of our greatest defenses since the dawn of time. Hair standing up on the back of your neck ... etc. Watch this on Dr. Mercola's site: http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2010/05/29/jeffrey-smith-interview-specter-rebuttal.aspx

Okay, enough soap-box speeches for the day : ) I'll just say that my eyes are more wide open now.
