Welcome to Lexie’s Kitchen! Since 2007 we've been on a journey to recovery with our youngest son. Through diet and targeted biomedical treatments we have made great strides in healing him from the inside out. Click here for the full story and a few words about the ingredients I use.

Pirate Smoothie

"Pirates have green teeth—when they have any teeth at all."
              - How I Became a Pirate by Melinda Long and David Shannon

Son No. 2 is really, and I mean really, into pirates. This pirate mom can get him to wear any shirt or try any food if she attaches the word "pirate" to it. This green smoothie happens to be one of his favorites and he loves showing off his green teeth after the first sip. Pirate mom likes that it has fruit, veggies and nuts in it—she likes the funny, green teeth, too!

In a high-powered blender, blend on high for one minute:

Handful of raw WALNUTS
Handful of raw SPINACH
1 stalk CELERY
1/2 GREEN APPLE (skin left on if organic)
1/2 BANANA
1/2 cup plain, non-dairy YOGURT
1/2 cup non-dairy MILK
1/2 cup filtered WATER
10-15 drops SweetLeaf Vanilla Crème LIQUID STEVIA

Cheers matey! And be sure to show off those green teeth. Makes enough for 2-4 pirates.

NOTES: I try to serve up at least one smoothie a day. Back when we were on the Anti-Candida Diet, we were drinking 2-3 a day. That's when I got into the habit of keeping a "Smoothie Kit" of pre-washed and sliced fruits and veggies in the fridge. Click here for more on that.

I am a huge green smoothie fan! I like the addition of nuts to yours. Definitely going to be trying this one soon!

Hi Stephanie, be prepared to say "argghhhh" :) I usually add almonds to my smoothies, but from what I read about eating right for your blood type (which I kinda loosely follow), walnuts are the ONE nut that is BENEFICIAL to all blood types ... so I figure it's good for everyone. But then bananas are a no-no for Type A's (like me and my boys) — again, I loosely follow it :)

Love your blog! Everyone should take a look at it (http://nograinnopain.blogspot.com/) I ESPECIALLY am glad for your mention of being on "antidepressants, anti-anxiety meds" and how after changing the way you ate, felt you could go off of them. I totally see the link between diet and mental health. Thanks for sharing that.
